
On behalf of the UK Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA), applications are invited for the upcoming SLSA Postgraduate Conference 2026, hosted by the Centre of Law and Society, Cardiff University, on 8–9 January 2026.
The VSR and SLSA have a long-standing collaboration, under which the SLSA sends five candidates to the VSR PhD Days conference and welcomes five VSR postgraduate researchers (PGRs) to the annual SLSA PGR conference. While the SLSA PGR conference is aimed at researchers at the start of their PhD journeys (usually year 1 or 2), the VSR conference focuses more on the intricacies of socio-legal methodology.
The SLSA PGR conference aims to provides a supportive and engaging space for postgraduate researchers to reflect on the early stages of their PhD journey. It also aims to encourage PGRs to build their international socio-legal networks.
A detailed schedule of the full programme is attached SLSA PGR Conference, Cardiff (Programme Schedule). There is also an optional opportunity to deliver a short presentation on your research and receive feedback on your presentation style.
Eligibility
Five spots have been reserved at the SLSA PGR conference for participants from the VSR. The conference is designed for those in the early stages of their PhD, so it is best suited to students in their first or second year of full-time study (or the equivalent in part-time programmes).
How to Apply
Please email your VSR representative, Raoul Rombouts (raoul.rombouts@UGent.be), in case you wish to attend. Applications will be on a first-come-first served basis. The deadline for application is 14th November, 2025.
Other Important Details
There are no conference fees. Meals are catered for by SLSA. However, please note that accommodation and travel costs are not covered by SLSA and must be met by VSR attendees.
